LVRS EMR Class 2025

Students will come to class prepared with the textbook assignment read, chapter tests done, and any other assignments completed.

Each Monday and Wednesday night will have a quick review of the textbook assignments then move to critical thinking skills and hands-on training. Class time lectures and activities will NOT cover all the material that the book covers, lectures will highlight key points, help to reinforce and integrate the material, and review questions from students.

You need to be able to learn independently from books, videos and on-line lectures, use a computer and perform the psycho-motor skills to take the NREMT certification exam and do the job. If you accomodations, the instructor needs to know about them right away.

Cost of the course of $475.00. Payment is required at the time of receiving a textbook. The cost will be reimbursed by LVRS for students who become licensed and join LVRS as full members and run in good standing.

LVRS will provide the textbook.

Jones and Bartlett Emergency Medical Responder Seventh Edition – Premier package which includes:

  A paper textbook, which you are expected to read. An eBook and an audio version, so that you can use whichever works best for your learning style and time commitments.

 Online resources, including lectures and quizzes are required. The course has some other tools, like flash cards and slides, of which you can use as much as you find helpful.

On-line Test Prep program, which you are expected to use during the last month of class to prepare for the national registry written exam, which is a computer-assisted exam.

Students shall supply their own blood pressure cuff and stethoscope.

Part of the requirements for the Emergency Medical Responder is supervised clinical experiences. This clinical experience is to be done on ambulance calls with the sudent’s home service or with LVRS.

The students will be expected to do the following in the  on the Ambulance to complete the course:

Clinical Requirements to be signed off by an LVRS team leader or an approved agency team leader:

·         Eight Clinical Hours minimum on the ambulance as a ride along on scene and to the hospital (return hours do not count).

·         Five sets of live patient vital signs.

·         Five live patient assessments including.

o   Head to toe physical examination.

o   Lung sounds.

o   Circulation, sensation and movement assessment.

o   Level of responsiveness – Alert, Verbal, Pain, Unresponsive.

o   Pulse oximetry.

·         Oxygen Administration

·         Assisting with moving and transporting patients.

·         When possible, assisting with:

o   Bleeding control, CPR, BVM, naloxone administration, patient’s MDI and Epi, Spinal motion restriction, splinting, open chest wound and wound care.

·         Student Portfolio to be kept by the student of all required skills. (See attached documents).

100% Attendance is required unless prior arrangements have been made with the instructor. If you have been excused from a class it is your responsibility to make up the material missed, unless you have made prior arrangements with the instructor for assistance.

In general, classes will not be canceled because of weather – this course is meant for those who are planning on working in emergency services, which means you will not have the option of not responding because of weather.
